Southwest Airlines reports third quarter results.
Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) has reported its third quarter 2006 results.
The airline reported a net income of USD48m, compared to USD210m for the same period last year. Southwest said that excluding unrealised gains/losses primarily relating to future periods associated with Statement of Financial Accounting Standard (SFAS) 133, "Accounting for Derivative Instruments and Hedging Activities," as amended, the net income for the third quarter 2006 was USD154m, which is flat compared to the third quarter 2005.
Total operating revenues for the quarter increased 17.7% to USD2.34bn, which can be compared to USD1.99bn for the same period last year. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased 8.6% while there was an 8.8% increase in available seat miles (ASMs). The resulting load factor was 74.7%
