Southern Power,Turner Renewable Energy buy solar plant in New Mexico.


23 May 2014 - US energy company Southern Co (NYSE:SO) said today its unit Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy had bought the 50MW Macho Springs solar facility in New Mexico.

The financial terms of the deal were not revealed.

The facility is the seventh solar project of the partnership of Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy. The deal is consistent with Southern Power's business strategy to expand its wholesale business in targeted markets through acquiring generating assets and building new units, it said.

The Macho Springs plant was built and will be operated by US photovoltaic (PV) systems supplier First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR), with commercial operations scheduled to begin this week. The plant is the largest solar facility in New Mexico, according to Southern Co's statement.
