Southern Peru Copper Corporation Defers Stock Offering.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--February 9, 1995--Southern Peru Copper Corporation today announced that it has deferred the public offering of its common stock as a result of prevailing market conditions. The planned offering was a secondary offering by three of the Company's shareholders. The Company would not have received any of the proceeds. The Company's financial structure, earnings and business outlook are strong and are unaffected by the offering deferral.

Southern Peru Copper Corporation is owned by ASARCO Incorporated (NYSE:AR) (52.3%); a subsidiary of The Marmon Group, Inc. (20.7%); Phelps Dodge Overseas Capital Corporation (16.3%), and Newmont Mining Corporation (10.7%).
