Sources of personal income.
Personal income fell $2.7 billion (annual rate) in January after rising $50.5 billion in December. The changes were affected by several special factors. The January change was reduce by a decrease in farm subsidy payments, December bonus payments to motor vehicle industry employees, and a change in personal contributions for social insurance programs; it was boosted by cost-of-living adjustments to several Federal transfer payment programs, an increase in unemployment insurance benefit payments, and a pay raise for Federal Government employees. The December change was boosted by an increase in farm subsidy payments, an increase in unemployment insurance benefit payments, and the motor vehicle industry bonus payments. Excluding these special factors, personal income increase $24.8 billion in December; the effect of these factors on the January change were offsetting. [TABULAR DATA OMITTED]
