Proprietary Sales Information Database

Source Interlink Companies (Nasdaq: SORC), the largest direct-to-retail magazine fulfillment distribution company and leading provider of magazine sales information and retail checkout management services, today announced it has signed five major publishers to its proprietary magazine sales information database, Interactive Communications Network (ICN).

Under the combined agreements, Source Interlink will provide Reader's Digest, Ziff Davis Media, Consumer Reports, Future Networks USA and BusinessWeek with information management services including daily scan-based and historical magazine sales information as well as Cover Analyzer.

The Cover Analyzer program, Source Interlink's latest information product offering under the ICN umbrella, provides publishers with the ability to accurately measure the effectiveness of magazine cover subjects, personalities and cover lines from more than 300 top selling titles in the U.S. In addition, publishers will receive daily scan-based, point-of-sale information on a title-by-title, issue-by-issue basis for their own titles and competitors from more than 7,500 retail stores as well as a comprehensive breakdown of magazine sales information sold on a historical basis from more than 80,000 retail stores throughout North America.

Leslie Flegel, Source Interlink chairman and chief executive officer, said, "Our rebate/information business is coming off the strongest quarter in company history due to our ability to develop, refine and constantly upgrade critical sales information for the nation's leading publishers. These new ICN agreements are evidence of the growing recognition among publishers of the substantial value of ICN. Through our vast, customized information product offerings, publishers now have the ability to increase newsstand sales for each of their publications and gauge the performance of their competitors. In the highly competitive business world in which publishers operate today, Source Interlink's information services offer its subscribers a significant advantage in the marketplace that often translates directly to improved efficiency and greater profits. ICN literally changes the way magazine publishers conduct business.

Our unique database of daily scan-based and historical sales information allows each publisher to improve sales forecasts and reduce costs. Publishers also value our Cover Analyzer program and its ability to evaluate the impact magazine cover subjects have on newsstand sales using relevant, time-sensitive data. Source Interlink is the only company to provide these all-inclusive services and we anticipate continued growth with our information products. The ICN database is now a critical factor in magazine management and enhances Source Interlink's position as an infomediary in this important marketplace."
