Sorted and the City: HUGE RADIO DEAL SIGNED UP.

Byline: Andrew Penman, Michael Greenwood and Guy Dennis

Esat BT announced yesterday it had signed a deal worth over EUR100m with '3' in the Republic of Ireland to build and operate its 3G radio access network.

In Ireland, '3' is the new brand name of Huchison Whampoa's 3G operations - the third generation mobile system which offers high speed data delivery. Esat BT will be responsible for building and operating all elements of the radio access network, which will include site acquisition and construction and setting up of the transmission network.

Bill Murphy, chief executive of Esat BT, said: "This win demonstrates Esat BT's ability to deliver major turnkey infrastructure projects to Tier One operators in the carrier market.

"Our dynamic approach and skilled resource base enabled us to win the confidence of Huchison. Being involved in the 3G arena is a particularly exciting opportunity, putting us at the core of its growth in Ireland."
