Sort out this miserable mess :Evening gazette comment.

Confusion and uncertainty over the new Child Tax Credit scheme is making thousands of families worried sick about money.

But calls to find out what is happening have left Teesside mums simply hanging on to the end of a telephone line.

The delay in payments is disgraceful. The lack of information to the worried victims adds insult to injury.

One Teesside mum tells us she applied in September, received confirmation in the New Year and has heard nothing since.

Another mum is having to borrow from her sister to feed her children.

The Inland Revenue tells us an emergency payment can be arranged for those whose money is overdue. They should take up this offer immediately.

But that is far from sufficient.

What they also need is for this whole miserable mess to be sorted out at once.
