Sophie C. Orszulak; 1910 - 2012.

CHICOPEE - Sophie C. (Obara) Orszulak, 102, died on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Birch Manor Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Chicopee. She was born on September 6, 1910 in West Rutland, VT. She was the daughter of the late Valentine and Karolina (Skwarczek) Obara. Sophie was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr and graduated from St. Stanislaus School. She worked at Savage Arms for fourteen years before moving to Worcester with her husband, Edward A. Orszulak. Sophie and Ed lived in Worcester for forty- eight years, where they had a son, Edward Stanislaus Orszulak. Sophie worked at Worcester City Hospital for fifteen years and upon retirement, Sophie was presented with a key to the city of Worcester by, at that time, Mayor Thomas Early. In 1989, Sophie and Edward moved back to Chicopee to the Obara family home on Sunnymeade Ave. In 1990, her husband Ed died. Sophie lost her son, Eddie in 1999. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Orszulak and two grandsons: Adam and Matthew Orszulak. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Chicopee. There are no calling hours. Cierpial Memorial Funeral Homes 413 598-8573
