Sony to license Samsung to produce Memory Stick cards.

TOKYO, Aug. 6 Kyodo

Sony Corp. said Wednesday it has agreed to license Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea to produce and sell its Memory Stick, a small memory card medium.

Samsung is expected to start production of Memory Stick cards during the July-September quarter, Sony said in a press release.

The move is in line with an agreement the two firms reached in August 2001 to promote the development of consumer electronics products, such as DVD players, mobile phones and TVs, that can be equipped with Memory Stick cards, it said.

Sony said the deal with Samsung will help expand the use of Memory Stick cards globally and provide a wider range of products to customers.
