Sonko likely to name Agnes Kagure as deputy governor.

Lobbying for Nairobi's Deputy Governor has intensified after the Supreme Court gave governor Mike Sonko and his Nyeri counterpart Mutahi Kahiga a go-ahead to nominate their deputies.

Sources at City Hall say Sonko has settled on Agnes Kagure to replace Polycarp Igathe who resigned in January.

The governor is expected to forward Kagure's name to the Assembly for vetting either tomorrow or on Thursday.

The Supreme Court last Friday gave Sonko and Kahiga 14 days to name their deputies.

State House, business community and politicians have been lobbying for their favourites to be appointed.

Former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, former senator aspirant Susan Silantoi and woman rep aspirant Karen Nyamu, former town clerk John Gakuo and EALA MP Simon Mbugua were said to be the among the frontrunners for the seat.

Currently, there is no law providing for the mechanism by which a deputy governor who has ceased to hold office can be replaced.
