SonicWALL Receives Technology & Learning 2003 Award of Excellence; SOHO TZW Wireless Solution Brings Secure Mobility to Schools.

SonicWALL, Inc. , a leading provider of comprehensive Internet security solutions, today announced that its SOHO TZW Education Edition has won a Technology & Learning Award of Excellence 2003 in the 'Security and Utility Programs' category. This award is granted to the best K-12 education technology products announced over the past year.

In the evaluation process, educator-judges spent hours test-driving the nearly 150 technology products submitted, and rating products on their quality and effectiveness, ease of use, creative use of technology, and suitability for the school environment. Each product also went through three rounds of judging by educators and the Technology & Learning Magazine editorial team.

"The evaluation process was rigorous and involved product testing by more than 30 educators over a period of several weeks," said Technology & Learning editor-in-chief Susan McLester. "The SonicWALL SOHO TZW stood out as a product that addressed the emerging needs for mobility and security in the Education market, in an easy-to-use and uniquely integrated solution."

"We're honored to receive the Technology and Learning Award of Excellence," said Douglas Brockett, SonicWALL vice president of worldwide marketing. "New technologies like wireless networking expand education opportunities for schools, but also expose schools to new security threats. The SOHO TZW, the industry's first secure wireless gateway, provides a safe and productive mobile learning environment."

About the SOHO TZW Education Edition

The SOHO TZW Education Edition combines the SonicWALL SOHO TZW secure wireless gateway with SonicWALL's powerful Content Filtering Service 2.0, giving schools and districts wireless connectivity for mobile learning, and comprehensive Internet access controls to protect students from objectionable Web content.

The SOHO TZW combines secure 802.11b wireless access, firewall, and VPN technologies for both wired and wireless security. The SOHO TZW provides easy to use setup wizards for a variety of deployment scenarios. The appliance can be deployed as a combination firewall, VPN and gateway to provide both LAN and Wireless LAN trusted zones.

SonicWALL Content Filtering Service 2.0 enforces web access policies by combining a virtually unlimited, dynamic URL database with SonicWALL's unique and innovative rating and caching architecture. A distributed, Internet-based URL database rates questionable or inappropriate web content into 12 categories. The SonicWALL Content Filtering policy on the SonicWALL SOHO TZW uses this rating information to enforce the desired levels of access for groups and individuals. SonicWALL's unique architecture then caches the results on the appliance for immediate access in the future.
