Sonia gifts Rae Bareli slew of new projects.

CONGRESS president Sonia Gandhi gifted over 70 new projects worth ` 400 crore to the people of Rae Bareli on Monday during a whirlwind tour of her Parliamentary constituency where she also laid the foundation of a new railway line.

On a day- long tour of Rae Bareli, Sonia inaugurated a dozen roads and laid the foundation of over 45 others under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana ( PMGSY) at Saraimugala village under Rahi block.

The UPA chairperson inaugurated a FM radio station, built at a cost of ` 10 crore, at the campus of Akashwani in Manchitpur area of Amawan.

She also inaugurated 13 new branches of the United Bank of India from Mahavir Institute of Technology, Kathwara.

Besides inaugurating a water treatment plant that will cater to over 100 villages, Sonia also laid the foundation of a new railway line between Rae Bareli, Maharajganj and Akbarganj. The 47- km railway line, connecting Rae Bareli with Faizabad, will be built at a cost ` 265 crore.

Six days ago, Sonia's son Rahul had toured his Lok Sabha constituency Amethi and inaugurated two trains and laid foundation of a new railway line in Salon area.

Congress insiders, meanwhile, believe that Sonia is showering these sops on the people with the aim to maintain her massive victory margin in the 2014 elections.
