Songs my mother taught me.

Or: Is it just an old wives' tale? Consider some of these time-honored gems:

Eating less will make your stomach shrink. Your stomach will expand if you pack it with food (and immediately returns to normal size when the food passes into the intestine), but it can't shrink.

Your sense of thirst will always tell you when your body need fluids. Usually, but not always. Vigorous exercise can deplete a considerable amount of fluid before thirst sets in, so drink before, during, and after exercise, whether in hot weather or cold. And don't waste money on fancy formulas-plain water is still the best fluid replacement.

Sweet potatoes have more calories than white potatoes. In fact, the caloric content is the same-and sweet potatoes are rich in vitamin C and beta carotene. (Four ounces of cooked sweet potato provides half the RDA of vitamin C and as much as five times the RDA of beta carotene.)

Carob is healthier than chocolate. On the contrary, it is very similar to chocolate in most respects, but has a lot more sugar, and carob products may contain more saturated fat. True, it does not contain caffeine-but the amount of caffeine in chocolate is believed to be harmless. Carob may have an advantage for those, however, who are allergic to chocolate.
