Son attacks mother.

A NORTH Wales man has pleaded guilty to a horror attack on his own mother.

Defendant Ivan William Hansom appeared at a preliminary hearing at Mold Crown Court yesterday charged with wounding his mother with intent. But he pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on Cheryl Hansom on August 8.

Judge John Rogers QC was told by prosecutor Robert Blakemore that Mrs Hansom,56,of Maes y Meillion, Leeswood, near Mold, was in a serious condition at Walton Hospital,Liverpool.

She was described as having paralysis down her left side and was unconscious on admission. She had started to talk,although incoherently.

Mr Blakemore said she was in a comfortable condition but still unable to speak to police. He said the prosecution would accept the GBH plea on the basis that the full facts would be presented in court.

No details of the case were revealed in court yesterday but defending barrister Mr Karl Sholtz said the incident had been witnessed by a neighbour.

The judge agreed that the case should be adjourned for both a pre-sentence report and a psychiatric report. Mr Sholtz said his 33-year-old client, of Maes y Meillion, had been receiving treatment for depression.

There was no application for bai land Hansom was remanded in custody pending sentence next month. Judge Rogers told him the fact he had pleaded guilty at an early stage would make a difference in sentence.
