Somerfield spends pounds 1bn on stores.

Supermarket giant Somerfield is to spend more than pounds 1billion out of cashflow over the next four or five years to upgrade its 1,400 stores.

Chief executive Mr David Simons said the group had decided, following its takeover of Kwik Save, to convert all its stores, including Food Giant and Gateway outlets, to the Somerfield brand.

ROM's nuclear deal

Lichfield-based ROM Group has won a pounds 3million order to build encapsulation and storage buildings for medium level nuclear waste at Sellafield, in Cumbria.

FI goes banking

The Bank of Scotland and FI Group have announced the creation of a new joint-venture company.

Birmingham-based Partco Group has won a pounds 12million contract to supply the AA with spare parts, tools and equipment for its patrol vans and transport workshops over the next three years.

South Bank design

Warwick's Woodhouse UK, Cre'active Design from Leamington Spa and Telford-based Syspal have joined forces to design, manufacture and supply the street lighting and furniture for the South Bank project in London.

pounds 4.5m press order

Clearing International, the Darlaston-based press refurbishment company, has won pounds 4.5million worth of orders for nine 400-ton hydraulic presses for a major car component manufacturer.
