Some win, some lose.

SURVEY WINNERS Woodpigeons and collared doves continue to be the two biggest winners, now seen in over half of UK gardens.

The tit family has the greatest staying power. Blue, great, coal and long-tailed tits all regularly appear in the Big Garden Birdwatch top 15. In 2009 the long-tailed tit made it into the top 10 for the first time in 30 years.

SURVEY LOSERS Song thrushes were common in 1979, but have plummeted down the rankings in recent years - in 2005 they dropped out of the top 20 for the first time.

Numbers of oncecommon Song thrush RSPB IMAGES robins, blackbirds and chaffinches have also dropped significantly in the last 30 years.
