Some people injured in clashes in Beirut.

| BEIRUT, May 20 (KUNA) -- A number of people were injured in clashes between armed men in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Sunday, security sources said.

Some elements blocked the roads and burned tires, which triggered other groups to retaliate and both sides started exchanging gun fire causing injury to more than five persons, the source told KUNA.

Both sides retreated with intervention of the Lebanese army, which deployed in the area, he added.

The clashes took place after a number of people blocked the roads in protest of the killing of Sunni cleric Sheikh Ahmad Abdulwahed by army forces because he refused to stop at a checkpoint in north Lebanon earlier today. (end) KUNA 210057 May 12NNNN
