Soldier killed, five foreign troops wounded in Farah blast

HERAT CITY (PAN): Farah Governor on Saturday said one Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was killed and over five foreign soldiers wounded as a bomb blast hit their military vehicle in the province late Friday evening.

Rohul Amen, governor of the southwestern Farah province bordering Iran informed Pajhwok Afghan News the bomb blast took place in Bala Blok district. One military vehicle of the foreign soldiers was also destroyed during the bomb blast, he added.

Captain Bernardo, an ISAF press officer however expressing unawareness about the overnight blast said, their soldiers eliminated eight Taliban fighters during an operation in the same district. Four ANA soldiers were injured during a firefight with militants, he continued.

Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, a self proclaimed spokesman for the Taliban fighters claimed over the telephone from an undisclosed location that four foreign soldiers were perished in the bomb blast carried out on the foreign soldiers.

Meanwhile, three ANA officers and a soldier were wounded in a separate bomb blast in southeastern Khost province on Saturday. Sabri District police chief, Gul Zahir informed this news agency the blast took place early Saturday morning.

He added the ANA soldiers have been to the district for a search operation while the blast hit their military vehicle. All the victims of the bomb blast were rushed to Khost Civil Hospital for treatment he continued.
