Soldier hero is a role model.

Byline: Susan Lee

MATTHEW Croucher might not be a name you immediately recognise but you should.

He's the Royal Marine who has just received the George Cross for flinging himself on top of a grenade to take the blast and save his nearby colleagues.

Fortunately he had the presence of mind to roll onto his back and his heavy-duty pack took the force of the explosion.

It was a supreme act of heroism, putting others' lives above his own without once thinking of the consequences.

These days young people need role models more than ever; someone to look up to and admire.

I don't mean fake celebrities or wannabe pop stars but genuine heroes.

And Matthew Croucher is a 24 carrat one.
