Social acceptance of cosmetic surgery grows.
A variety of factors add to the appeal of cosmetic surgery for Americans, according to the poll. Respondents cited less pain (37%), shortened recovery time (35%) and minimized scarring (39%) as favorable characteristics of the latest technological advances in cosmetic surgery.
"Apprehension about cosmetic surgery lessens when people are more educated about surgical and technological advancements," said Susan Downey, M.D., F.A.C.S., associate professor of plastic surgery, U.S.C. Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles.
