So much on offer for students at Cardiff University.
BEING ranked 5th best university in the UK for the quality of its research and being on the doorstep of the capital city are two of the major benefits for students at Cardiff University.
Elli, a current student tells us about her time so far at Cardiff Why did you choose Cardiff University? The physics course is really good, it's a Russell Group university, and it's in a capital city but is a friendly (small!) kind of size. I couldn't believe I was lucky enough to get a place at Cardiff through Clearing. What were your first impressions when you first visited the university? I'm from a small town, so my first impression was 'wow it's big' and then 'there are so many people' and then 'being in the middle of the city is really great but kind of overwhelming right now'. It has gotten way less overwhelming, and I keep finding new parts of Cardiff I love! There is always stuff to do, and being on the doorstep of a capital city means I am never bored. What do you get involved in? Student Scout and Guides Society (Cardiff SSAGS). In my first year I also went to Sci Fi society and TCUPS (said Tea-cups) which is The Cardiff University Purcell Singers (we mostly sang Disney). I also am a Cardiff Insider, which I started in March of my first year, and have helped out at multiple open days with the physics department, and the settling-in events for new students in freshers' week. I like being busy! I would encourage anyone to try out as many things as they can. There are more than 200 sports and societies available, and the students' union has its own scheme called Give It a Go which encourages everyone to try something new!
What would you say to students considering Cardiff? For me, it's far away from home but I really love it. It has all the amenities of London but is small and friendly. The courses are great, and there are loads of opportunities to learn outside of your degree, like Languages for All or Welsh for All. Sum up Cardiff University in three words Home. Support. Friends.
