WELL DONE for new Government Law allowing OFGEM to cap the prices charged, for customers on standard variable price tariff electricity.

A recent letter received from my electricity supplier informing me, suggests my charges will go down from January 1st. Yes, my unit charge will reduce by point 008 or 009.

What they did not directly point out is that the daily standing charge will increase by five pence per day. I will make a saving but, so be it, a very small one.

For those who do not pay by Direct Debit their unit charge remains at the current higher price and their daily standing charge increases by nine pence per day, so they will pay more.

OFGEM has allowed the energy companies to cover their backs and discriminate against those people who are unable to use direct debit to pay.

So much for capping prices! Frank Harrison Coundon
