Snooker: DOTT CAN KILL GIANT LIKE I DID; Crucible cracker Joe backs Scot to shock Ronnie.
JOE JOHNSON pulled off the biggest upset in snooker history when he beat Steve Davis in the 1986World Championship Final.
The 150-1 outsider, famous for his red and white spats, danced into the hall of fame with an amazing 18-12 win.
Eighteen years on, Graeme Dott is on an identical mission rated a no-hoper in his clash with Ronnie O'Sullivan - although last night the Scot was trailing just 9-7.
When the competition began on April 17 the bookies rated the 26-year-old a 200-1 long shot.
And if Dott the biggest outsider to reach the final beats 1-12 favourite O'Sullivan it will the biggest upset than David and Goliath.
Until this year the Larkhall cueman had won only two matches in five previous appearances at Sheffield.
But last night Johnson, outof action since breaking an ankle in September said: 'Dott is like me in '86 when I faced a snooker god in Steve Davis.
'I didn't think I could win but I did. I was totally relaxed and it was the biggest achievement of my life to get there.
'This time Ronnie is the more dominant player but I don't think it will be the walkover everyone expects.
'No matter what, Dott will leave with a lot of money and he deserves every penny. It is impossible to fluke your way to the World Championship Final. Dott has worked hard to get there.
'Thousands of players out there will have tracked his progress with fascination, amazed that the underdog could go so far.
'They will be thinking 'if he can do it, so can I'.
'This could be wonderful for the grassroots of snooker.Who gave Joe Johnson a hope in hell when I played Steve Davis?
'Dott is a real hard nut, across between fellow-Scots, Stephen Hendry and John Higgins. He is very streetwise and does not know when he is beaten.'
