Smooth merger rewarded; HR&D Practitioner of the Year Award.

Winner Daren Stubbs, head of HR UK & Ireland, Draeger Ltd DAREN Stubbs has managed to merge the distinct HR cultures of Blyth's Draeger Safety and Hemel Hempstead's Draeger Medical, after volunteering to take on responsibility for implementing the company's global One Draeger initiative across the two arms of the business in 2009.

After the Draeger Safety HR manager convinced global bosses he could take on the Draeger Medical responsibilities with no additional resources, he set about implementing a single pension scheme, company handbook, healthcare provider, intranet site and training catalogue for the two organisations. He also standardised employment contracts and recruitment policy, and even drafted a joint newsletter.

Since putting in his measures in the UK, Draeger's HR departments in Belgium and Switzerland have followed his lead.

He said: "I'm delighted to pick up this individual award. However, I must say that it helps that I have such a strong team behind me."
