Smiling Assassin is desperate for shot.


TWO of Merseyside's best little men return to the ring this weekend at Huddersfield Leisure Centre.

John Donnelly and Paul Edwards both feature on the Sky Sports Friday Fight Night card, and both hope victories will set them up for summer title assaults.

Bantam come super-flyweight Donnelly, 11-1, is hoping the scalp of former English and British champion Andy Bell will unlock doors for him.

Capable of competing in both divisions, Donnelly, 25, needs to keep his current form going to ensure the phone rings.

Meanwhile, undefeated former amateur star Edwards is just keeping his fingers crossed that Kuwait-born flyweight Anwar Alfadi makes it into the ring.

Over the past three months the 'Smiling Assassin' has become the victim of his own success and has frustratingly found opponents much harder to land than his punches.

A contingent of good level opposition has come and gone without stepping inside the ropes leaving Edwards, who is within touching distance of a title match-up at flyweight, increasingly frustrated.

However, fingers crossed, game Sheffield-based Alfadi looks to have stepped up to the plate.
