Smart operators earn CIMA honours.

John Allen and Lorna Harper have become the first part-qualifieds to win the CIMA NHS Student Excellence Awards. Allen was presented with a certificate and an Apple iPod last month for achieving the highest overall mark of all the CIMA students in the NHS who took their final level exams in the latest diet. Harper (pictured with CIMA's chief executive, Charles Tilley) achieved similar outstanding results at intermediate level. The high-flying student also managed to achieve the highest mark in the Management Accounting--Decision-Making paper.

The award, sponsored by the Financial Training Company, was set up last year to celebrate the NHS's commitment to outstanding performance in management accounting. The health service is now the largest single employer of chartered management accountants in the UK. "The award has motivated me to continue to do well in the future," Harper told FM. "I'm looking forward to putting the qualification to good use in the NHS."
