Smart device to educate workers about rights.
Summary: The Ministry of Labour launched the device in Dubai as part of the ongoing Innovation Week.
A new smart device - interestingly called "Sunday the 22nd" - will help raise the awareness of labourers about their rights and duties.
The Ministry of Labour launched the device in Dubai on Sunday as part of the ongoing Innovation Week.
Maher Al Obed, assistant undersecretary for inspection affairs, explained that the device has Internet access, a touch screen, internal speakers and a printer. "The device was assembled by the ministry's guidance department to ... educate as many labourers as possible across the nation."
"The device will be able to assist approximately 1,200 workers every month at a rate of about 40 workers per day - who will be identified through their Emirates ID cards, passports or labour cards.
"Workers can learn (about) ... ministerial decisions and laws by ... watching a special 20-minute video that is available in eight languages: Arabic, English, Urdu, Hindi, Chinese, Malayalam, Filipino and Vietnamese," he said.
As soon as the worker finishes watching the video, an e-training certificate will be printed stating that the worker has been educated about UAE labour laws.
Al Obed explained that the device will be available in places most frequented by labourers.
