Small-scale specialist starts to think globally.

Fast-developing Specials Clinical Manufacturing is to represent the North-East on a global scale as it makes its debut at a vital trade show in Madrid.

The clinical-trials manufacturer, sister company of award-winning The Specials Laboratory, will reveal its pioneering approach to its field as it aims to bring some major business back to its home region.

Managing director Fiona Cruickshank said: "Our participation at ICSE [International Contract Services Expo] gives us the chance to demonstrate our innovative approach to the entire pharmaceutical industry and reinforce the North-East as a centre for scientific and manufacturing excellence.

"Although we're a relatively small player in such an enormous global industry, we're confident we'll turn a few heads and make people stand up and take notice in Madrid."

ICSE is the premier exhibition for pharmaceutical contract servicing businesses and provides Specials Clinical Manufacturing with an opportunity to showcase itself to some of the most prestigious names in the worldwide pharmaceutical industry. Historically, firms in drugs contract manufacturing have concentrated on bulk manufacturing to benefit from cost efficiencies.

But Specials Clinical Manufacturing, of Prudhoe, specialises in providing more complex, small and specialist clinical-trial services. Specials Clinical Manufacturing recently announced its first major manufacturing contract win for a US trial.
