Small claims to be filed on EU firms; CONSUMER.

IRISH consumers will be able to make small claims against companies in the EU from tomorrow, the Justice Minister revealed yesterday.

Dermot Ahern said the European Small Claims Procedure will improve access to justice by making cross-border claims simple.

He added: "The main purpose is to establish a uniform procedure for getting a court decision in respect of a small claim across the Member States.

"This is designed to simplify the life of the citizen by reducing the obstacles to securing a fast and inexpensive judgement in small claims cases which have a cross-border dimension."
