Small Business Conference wins 'Best of Show" Award.
"We had an idea that we were on the right track when we inaugurated this conference in 2003 as the first event of its kind in this region to help small businesses make money, save money and grow. Winning the top award from ACCE is proof that we were right," said Chamber President and CEO Dick Blouse. "We owe this success to our great staff, particularly our Signature Events team; to our conference chair, Elaine McMahon of Comerica Bank; and to the founder of the conference, our former executive vice president Tami Door."
The top award was presented in August at the ACCE's annual convention in St. Louis. The Chamber's entry, in the "Special Events" category, had previously been chosen to receive one of six ACE Grand Awards. Roya Speights and Brenda Harvill of the Chamber's membership sales team also won Lifetime Achievement Awards at this year's ACCE convention for combined sales of more than $1.5 million during their tenure with the Chamber.
The ACE program honors, rewards and celebrates the achievements of outstanding communication programs, campaigns and projects that encompass all areas of communication excellence. This year's competition drew 250 entries from more than 100 chambers of commerce throughout the world. Entries were critiqued by more than 40 judges from diverse professional backgrounds.
The 2005 Small Business Conference is Nov. 10 at the Ford Conference & Event Center in Dearborn. For more information, visit www.detroitchamber.com.
