New Delhi, Sep 13(ANI): Hundreds of the slum dwellers, residing on the banks of Yamuna River, are suffering with the river crossing the danger level following incessant rains in the national capital.

A flood alert was issued Saturday after water levels of Yamuna reached 204.55 meters. It is likely to reach 205.05 meters well above the danger mark.

Earlier, Government authorities had asked slum dwellers to evacuate and said their food and healthcare would be looked after.

The slum dwellers, however, complained that the government has not done much. Tents and water tankers were provided to them they admitted, but other than that they had received further help.

"Our crops have been destroyed. We are really very troubled, no one has done anything for us, since yesterday, we have been drenched in the rain, our belongings are spoilt, there has been a lot of damage," said Rihanna, a slum dweller.

Most slum dwellers are daily work labourers and farmers.

With their fields being washed away, these dwellers are worried about their survival.

"Our crops have been washed away. The government has not given us anything, be it tents or food items. They only say on the television that they are doing this and that, but nothing has been done yet," said Amar Singh, another slum dweller.

The release of about 400,000 cusecs of water by Haryana has also contributed to the flooding.

The city received 576.8 mm rain this season after continuous showers in the last two days bridged the deficiency gap this season. (ANI)
