Slovakia takes over presidency of EU Council.
On the occasion of the historically first taking over of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands hosted a reception at the Macedonian National Theater on 29 June attended by government officials, public figures and representatives of the diplomatic corps in the Republic of Macedonia.
The Ambassador of the Slovak Republic, Martin Bezak, underlined in his address that his country took over the Presidency of the Council of the EU in a time when the Union faced presumably some of the greatest challenges and uncertainties in its almost 60-year-old history and stressed the commitment of the Slovak Presidency to note success in terms of unblocking the integration process of the Republic of Macedonia at the meeting of the European Council in December this year.
Launching membership negotiations with the EU is the primary goal of the Republic of Macedonia. We trust that it is a mutual interest that negotiations open as soon as possible. In this way, the credibility of the policy of enlargement will strengthen despite the new circumstances, said Macedonia's Deputy Foreign Minister Ilija Isajlovski, wishing the Slovak Republic successful Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The cultural part of the reception featured a performance by the Dance Theater Skopje and a concert by piano virtuoso Richard Rikkon.
