Slick moves bring Death back to life; Your games.. gadgets.. & gigs.
DARKSIDERS II (15+) Xbox 360, PS3, PC RRP: pounds 49.9 Out now THE original Darksiders rightly earned a cult following, but with masterful combat and stunning environments, its sequel is even more worthy of comparisons with the acclaimed Zelda series.
You play as Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. But unlike the traditional hooded ghoul with the scythe, Darksiders' version is a swift dual-wielder with a six pack, resulting in acrobatic, creative puzzles that have the Grim Reaper leaping like an Olympic gymnast.
This sequel again merges God of War scraps with exploration of the aforementioned Nintendo classic. This time out, though, creator and comic artist Joe Madureira has let his creativity explode with epic, other-worldly locations that prove to be an absolute joy to explore.
Combat is the real highlight, however. Death's steel abs ensure blood-splattering moves and breakneck combos, while a deep skill upgrade system means you can evolve your fight style.
Ultimately, Zelda does gadgets and side-quests better, but otherwise, Darksiders II comes deadly close to matching the master. ANDY ROBINSON
