Slew of tunnels and bridges.
Under Phase III, the Delhi Metro is constructing 74 tunnels for its 47km- long underground corridors. Officials said that to minimise the risk to surrounding buildings during the construction of tunnels, Delhi Metro will install a system that will gather vibration data during digging work. This data will help the Metro minimise the risk to buildings during construction work.
According to a DMRC spokesperson, the system will act as a tool for data acquisition, visualisation, reporting and, consequently, as a tool for risk minimisation as it will provide immediate information on the physical progress of a tunnel.
The Centralised Data Management System will be fully integrated with project data and geological measurements along with movement of the tunnel boring machine. It will consist of a map viewer showing the entire tunnel boring machine at work.
In Phase II, 34.89 km of underground corridor was built and the DMRC had used 14 tunnel boring machines.
Officials said that tunneling in Phase III will be completed by mid- 2015. Three tunnels in the Central Secretariat- Mandi House corridor have already been completed.

THE Delhi Metro is unusual in that it is one of the few large government projects that has remained mostly unscathed, while allegations of graft and bungling brings down dozens of other " well- meaning" efforts.
But that reputation requires maintenance.
Reports that the third phase of the project could be delayed, for the first time in the history of the Metro, should serve as a reminder for the authorities that they cannot afford to get complacent.
