Sleeve gastrectomy mostly used to treat obesity.

Low-risk Sleeve gastrectomy is most popular among

morbidly obese people, a Kuwaiti surgeon said Wednesday. The procedure involves dividing the stomach vertically into two parts

without damaging it, surgical expert at Amiri Hospital Dr. Khalid Al-Anzi told

KUNA. Patients are allowed to eat most kinds of foods in small portions after the

hormone that triggers hunger is extracted, he said. Morbidly obese people lose about 85 percent of their weight while 90

percent of diseases associated with obesity would disappear, he noted. Around 70 percent of Kuwaitis are overweight, 40 percent of whom are

morbidly obese. Obesity is the number one disease worldwide as it accounts for heart

diseases, diabetes, and high blood pressure alongside physical impact on the

patient.
