Sleep-deprived kids cause Christmas rows.

Excited children miss out on an entire day of sleep over Christmas and their grumpiness causes most festive rows, according to new research.

Youngsters lose out on just over 25 hours of sleep in the Christmas week and cause 70 per cent of family arguments, a survey has found.

Their average bedtime on Christmas Eve is 11.41pm, waking up at 6.17am - even thought it is recommended that under 13s have at least ten hours' sleep a night.

Excitement over presents and family visits take their toll. Parents also lose out on an average of three hours' sleep a night.

A poll by a bed manufacturer, Silentnight, has found that parents blamed seven out of ten festive family rows on their children.

A company spokeswoman, Amanda Jones, said: "Sleep deprivation makes our children short-tempered and miserable and it just goes to show that having the recommended eight hours a night really can make a big difference to their mood."
