RUSSELL SLADE believes Grimsby laid down a marker after holding high-flying Notts County.

The Magpies could not find a way past goalkeeper James McKeown and his defence, and boss Slade said: "Overall, we matched Notts County in every area. In the end, we put a little marker down. It was a step forward from my point of view.

"We defended well and you have to against Notts because they do the basics really well."

Notts County manager Kevin Nolan said: "Sometimes you have to say it's a job well done by the opposition as well as us not being at the top of our game.

"You are not going to run riot over teams at home week in, week out. With the ball, we just weren't as good as we have been."
