Sky Perfect, NTT DoCoMo to launch TV services for mobile phones.

TOKYO, May 12 Kyodo

Sky Perfect Communications Inc. and NTT DoCoMo Inc. said Tuesday they will jointly launch new services which allow third-generation FOMA mobile handset users to watch TV programs offered by the communications satellite digital broadcaster within fiscal 2005 ending March 31, 2006.

Prior to the commercialization, the two companies will offer trial services from June 15 to Nov. 30 to evaluate market needs, business models for commercial services, and technical and usage results, they said.

They will accept about 300 monitors for the trial through June 7.

During the trial, monitors can watch some 20 live and archived programs including animations, movies and sport programs free of charge, the two said, adding the monitors will have to pay telecommunications fees to NTT DoCoMo.
