Skipper on deaths rap.

THE owner and skipper of a boat which sank will be put on trial tomorrow charged with the unlawful killing of five men.

Patrick Barden, 64, from Ralph, Fethard-on-Sea, Co Wexford, faces a total of eight charges including a charge of intentionally or recklessly engaging in conduct which created a substantial risk of death.

He is further charged with being the owner of a vessel which did not carry suitable personal flotation devices for every person on board.

The Pisces, a 26-ft open-deck boat with 10 people on board, sank off Fethard-on-Sea, Co Wexford, on the morning of July 28, 2002.

The trial, at Wexford Circuit Court, is expected to last three weeks.
