Skin fade products see a surge in sales.

NEW YORK -- While the two ethnic hair care categories tracked by SymphonyIRI Group Inc. suffered declines in the three months ended October 3, the fade/bleach segment of skin care bucked the trend with a 12.3% gain.

Driving the growth in large part was a 53% gain for second-place brand Palmer's cocoa butter, from E.T. Browne Drug Co.

Also flourishing was No. 5 Porcelana, which posted a 57% gain for the quarter.

To maintain the category's momentum, Biocosmetic Research Labs has launched Black Opal fade systems. Building on the heritage of the original Black Opal fade gel launched in 1994, the new systems target the problems of skin color, from hyperpigmentation to highly reactive skin.

The line comprises fade gels, body fade creams and daily fade creams.
