Skikda Aromatics Units.

Naftec and ENIP have aromatics units at the Skikda oil refining complex with a capacity to produce: 90,000 t/y of benzenes, about 5,000 t/y of toluenes, 247,000 t/y of xylenes, and 38,000 t/y of paraxylenes.

In November 1991, Rollechim Impianti of Italy signed an agreement to set up a JV with ENIP and Naftec. They had a plant built at this complex to produce orthoxylenes, paraxylenes and pthalic anhydrides, with the paraxylenes converted into purified terephthalic acids (PTA) for use in polyester manufacture. The pthalic anhydride is used by the paints industry.
