Six of the best is way to sign off at Anfield.

HERE is a little known fact - the first Liverpool game this observer attended was in April 1984 when West Ham United were thrashed 6-0 at Anfield.

So there is certain symmetry today as once the final whistle is blown at Anfield this evening following another game against the Hammers, my 14-month tenure as the Liverpool Echo''s Liverpool Correspondent will officially come to a close. Pastures new await.

I knew from working alongside first Chris Bascombe and then Tony Barrett what a special position the job is but not in any way did I envisage my spell in the hot-seat would be quite so dramatic as it has turned out to be.

Some of you will doubtlessly be delighted I am on the move, as Liverpool have never lost so many games in such a short period of time and, you will not be surprised to learn that I soon became knows as 'Jinxy'' and 'the Grim Reaper'' - perhaps now the curse on results can be lifted.

In all seriousness, it has been a privilege to cover the fortunes of Liverpool for all ECHO readers during the last 14 months - and, it must be said, Everton for the four years prior - and I can only hope I have managed to do half as good a job as Chris, Tony and Dave Prentice before me.

Now, if there is going to be exact symmetry, what chance another 6-0 this evening?
