Siphonophora (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) of Canadian Pacific waters.

Mapstone, Gillian M.

NRC Research Press

302 pages

This resource for taxonomists, deep ocean researchers, and evolutionary geneticists offers detailed descriptions for 37 species of Siphonophora collected from the Pacific Ocean off British Columbia; 25 of the species are newly recorded from the area. Notes on taxonomy, nomenclature, and biology are given for each species, and data on winter-spring depth distribution and abundance are included for three of the most common species. Three keys to siphonophore families and related species are included. The reference updates siphonophore taxonomy for the first time in 40 years, and contains about 60 b&w figures (including many camera lucida line drawings), plus one page of color photos. There is also a glossary of terms. Mapstone is affiliated with the Department of Zoology at the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
