Singing on the light side; Music.

COLNE VALLEY Male Voice Choir has been back in the recording studio, this time to produce a CD which reflects the lighter side of its music.

Under the direction of Thom Meredith, who next year will notch up his 20th year with the choir, the singers have achieved remarkable success.

They have a busy concert diary, have had their most rewarding competition results and been no slouch in the recording department either.

The choir's new CD, Light and Easy Colne Valley features 19 tracks, all from among the lighter pieces sung in their concert programmes.

It was recorded in May in Linthwai te Methodist Church by Mike Briggs Location Recordings.

Thom conducted the choir for the recording and is featured baritone soloist on You Raise Me Up.

Matt Houston is the soloist on No Man Is An Island, Raymond Ellis sings on Vive L'Amour and Simon Durrans (guitar) is featured on TheWonderOf You.

Thom's son, Harry, a talented young musician,

plays percussion on five of the tracks while Philip Baxter plays keyboard on two.

No recording would have been complete without the musical talent of the choir's accompanist Keith Swallow who has been with the Colne Valley men for more than 50 years.

Previous recordings made by the choir under Thom's direction include Champions In Concert, a CD of a live recording of a concert in Huddersfield Town Hall with Brighouse and Rastrick Band in 1999.
