Singer of the Blues

A new round of layoffs at Fairfield Communities Inc. has claimed Leslie Singer, the Little Rock adman who founded Fairfield's in-house advertising agency more than four years ago. In the past two months, a total of eight creative and marketing personnel have been fired.

Cuts have been attributed to the news that a major Fairfield lender, First National Bank of Boston, has cancelled its $45 million line of credit to the corporation. Beginning Sept. 15, Fairfield must begin paying back $23 million it has drawn on the account. Other staff cuts include sales training, legal department and data processing.

"(Fairfield) is focusing on few prime resorts," Singer claims. "They can't support the staff they had with this new focus."

Singer says he'll free-lance for a while but would like to get settled in somewhere soon.
