Singer dies in boating accident; DROWNING.

Byline: TOM SHIEL

A MEMBER of a well-known Irish ballad group died in a boating accident on Saturday.

It is believed that Martin Mulloy, 58, got a foot entangled in a rope on a small boat that he owns at Mulranny Pier in West Mayo and was dragged into the water.

His body was found around lunchtime on Saturday.

Gardai have described the incident as "a tragic accident".

Martin was a member of The Mulloy Brothers.

The group, who sing traditional ballads, have been performing since 1964 in a career that has involved a number of tours around the United States and Europe.

Prayers for Mr Molloy were recited at masses in the seaside village of Mulranny yesterday where clergy described the death as "a great tragedy for the area".

Mr Molloy is survived by his wife Maureen and son Shane.
