Singapore : LTA awards S$1.15 billion worth of contracts for MRT expansion.

The Land Transport Authority awarded contracts for the construction of three new stations situated along the Eastern and Thomson Region Lines including the communications system, signalling system and platform screen doors to expand the rail network in Singapore.

The LTA said on 21 April 2014 that civil, mechanical and electrical contracts valued up to S$1.15 billion were awarded to global and local construction companies, of which around S$207 million, S$441 million and S$222 million has been allotted to Mt Pleasant, Maxwell and Stevens stations respectively.

Mt Pleasant station will become the fifth Civil Defence shelter on the Thomson Line, alongside with Lentor, Woodlands, Mayflower and Sin Ming stations.

Among the 22 stations on Thomson Line, Stevens will serve as one of its six interchange stations alongside with Woodlands, Orchard, Caldecott, Marina Bay, and Outram Park to link Bukit Timah and Thomson.

The transport organisation noted that these interchange stations will link to the Downtown Line, North-South-East-West Line, North East Line and Circle Line, providing greater accessibility and significantly improve travel time for commuters .
