Sinead 'right to rip pic'.

SINEAD O'Connor has upset US religious groups by dismissing the 15-year controversy over her ripping up a photo of Pope John Paul II on TV.

She told a US interviewer she didn't "give a sh**" about it.

O'Connor, now touring the US, said last week she barely noticed the storm over her tearing up the picture on Saturday Night Live in October 1992.

"To be honest, I don't notice if there's any fallout because genuinely I don't care. I'm sure my management and certain people around me would be happy if I had shut my mouth and puckered up years ago because they'd be making a lot more money if I had," she said.

"But I really don't give a sh**. I'm just happy to be working.

"I'm still boycotted here in the US, oh yeah, very much so. Big time. The radio stations won't play my records.

"In England, it's like that too but otherwise not in the rest of the world."

The New York-based Catholic League said the singer's comments were "beneath contempt".

Mouthy... Sinead
