Simpsons Maude is killed off.

HIT show The Simpsons celebrated its 10th anniversary by killing off one of its characters in a bizarre accident yesterday.

Millions of American fans switched on to find out who was going to die.

And as many guessed, it turned out to be Maude Flanders, wife of goody two-shoes neighbour Ned, who left the animated programme in a box.

Hit by rockets aimed by cheerleader girls at a motor race event, she fell out of the grandstand.

"She didn't even say goodbye," said Ned.

No surprise, however, as it was known that Maggie Roswell, the voice behind the character, had left the show because she was fed up with commuting from her Denver home to Los Angeles.

After Maude, the favourites were Moe the bartender and Principal Seymour Skinner.

Several years ago, The Simpsons paid homage to a JR episode in Dallas by airing a show called Who Shot Mr Burns?
