Simple Technology Delivers Advanced SDRAM Technology

SANTA ANA, Calif., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ - Simple Technology, a leading manufacturer of memory and PC Cards, is shipping SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory) upgrades as the introduction of systems supporting this memory technology heats-up. The company has developed SDRAM upgrades in a 168-pin DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Modules) that take full advantage of the high-performance and affordability of the SDRAM technology.

Until recently, SDRAM technology was a vision for the PC market, with analysts and manufacturers alike anticipating that SDRAM would be the future standard for PC memory. However, the adoption cycle for this new technology has accelerated as a result of two dominant factors. One being the availability of chip sets containing an integrated DRAM controller to support SDRAM from companies such as Intel, AMD and others. The second being Intel incorporating SDRAM into their motherboards.

Although SDRAM is only now becoming popular, Simple Technology has designed proprietary upgrades for the Toshiba Tecra 700, the first personal computer to use the new SDRAM technology. Simple Technology has also developed SDRAM modules for Gateway and Dell computing systems; manufacturers who are early adopters of this new faster technology.

Alongside new system introductions, Simple Technology is delivering 8 MB, 16 MB, 32 MB and 64 MB (megabyte) memory upgrade solutions. The SDRAM upgrades are manufactured in accordance with 168-pin JEDEC standards. In addition, SDRAM memory upgrades in 200-pin and 278-pin DIMMs will be available as future applications come to market.

"Our engineering strength allowed us to move quickly as the migration to systems supporting SDRAM has increased," stated Mark Moshayedi, chief operating officer, Simple Technology, Inc. "Simple Technology is ready with the high-capacity SDRAM upgrade solutions which deliver noticeably better performance as the market requires."

Confirming Simple Technology's projections is leading market research firm Dataquest. "1996 has become the turning-point for computer systems supporting SDRAM technology," commented George Iwanyc, industry analyst, Dataquest.

Price and availability

The memory upgrades are currently shipping with suggested retail prices as follows:
 8 MB $205.00 16 MB $370.00
 32 MB $715.00 64 MB $1405.00

Street prices may be lower. As with all Simple Technology memory products, the new SDRAM upgrades will be guaranteed 100% compatible and carry a lifetime warranty. In addition to the new SDRAM upgrades, Simple Technology manufactures a full line of 168-pin DIMM products, including modules for systems that require Fast Page Mode (FPM) and Extended Data Output (EDO).

The new, faster memory technology -- SDRAM

A key feature of SDRAM is its ability to synchronize all operations with the processor clock signal. This makes the implementation of control interfaces easier, and it makes column access time quicker. SDRAM includes an on-chip burst counter that can be used to increment column addresses for very fast burst accesses. This means that SDRAM allows new memory accesses to be initiated before the preceding access has been completed.

Founded in 1990, Simple Technology, Inc. is a worldwide leader in memory upgrades and computer peripherals. The company manufactures over 1,400 separate memory products for desktop computers, notebooks, PDAs, workstations, servers and printers.
